BetOnline Review

Founded in the early 1990s, BetOnline has a lengthy history and is currently among the oldest online sportsbooks. In the early days, BetOnline was a land-based sportsbook and nothing more, accepting wagers via phone (which they still do!). After over a decade of business, they went online and the rest is history. Quickly, they transitioned from being nothing more than a sportsbook to a full-scale online casino.

While there is a full casino offered at BetOnline, it is certainly most well-known as a sportsbook. In terms of sports betting options for bettors in the United States (and around the world), BOL ranks near, or at, the top.

Sportsbook at BetOnline

Players Accepted: United States, Canada, All Others Except Below
Players Not Accepted: Panama, Malta, Egypt, Ghana, Indonesia, Macedonia, Morocco, Nigeria, Pakistan, Serbia, Montenegro, Ukraine

The sportsbook at BetOnline is straightforward and to the point. The bulk of the book is comprised of available bets, with minimal promotional overflow or distractions. In terms of usability and overall experience, BOL is among the best in the industry. If you know what you are looking to wager on, you will be there within a few clicks.

BetOnline is a US-facing sportsbook. As a result of this, there is a heavy emphasis on the most popular leagues in the United States, including NFL, NBA and MLB. While non-US leagues and sports, such as soccer, are offered at BOL, they are not nearly as dominant as they would be at a UK sportsbook like bet365 or PaddyPower.

Users at will be eligible for a variety of bonuses, including at time of sign up and for re-deposits as well. The BetOnline platform is available both on desktop as well as mobile clients, to which we will specifically cover more in-depth in this article.

Reputation of BetOnline

World Casino Index Reputation Rating: 5/5

BetOnline’s sportsbook has effectively steered clear of any and all negative publicity. Given its lengthy history and decades in the industry, this squeaky clean reputation is particularly noteworthy. Even the most fair and honest sportsbooks have had to deal with scandals and upset players from time to time, but BOL sports betting has managed to avoid controversy entirely.

Of note, the closest thing to a “scam” involving was focused on their online live dealer blackjack game in the casino. While this had nothing to do with the sportsbook itself, or even BetOnline (as the live dealer game was provided by, and run by, a third party company), it should be noted that this was resolved, and that any culpability was placed on the third party operator. As such, even the one minor, non-sportsbook related scandal at BetOnline was a product of a third party provider’s error, and had no relation to the sports betting operation whatsoever. It is our opinion that BetOnline’s sportsbook has a completely clean track record.

Sports and Leagues Offered at BetOnline

Primary Sports Offered: Baseball, Basketball, Football, Hockey, Soccer, Tennis
Other Sports Offered: Auto Racing, Boxing, Cricket, Darts, Handball, Golf, Martial Arts, Rugby, Snooker
Not Offered (or not listed): Entertainment, Political, Volleyball

There are a total of 6 primary sports offered at BetOnline. These include baseball, basketball, football, hockey, soccer, and tennis. While these are listed as the “main sports” at, they are not the only events that are offered. Under “other sports” you will find rugby, auto racing, boxing, cricket, darts, golf, martial arts, snooker and handball.

It is important to note that many of the sports that fall into the “other” category frequently do not have any wagers available. As such, BetOnline is most viable as a book for bettors who are interested in the primary leagues offered. BetOnline is not known for their wide array of sports or expansive offerings of props or alternate lines, but instead for their emphasis on the major US sports leagues and events.

Baseball at BetOnline

BetOnline offers baseball betting from leagues around the world; not only MLB games. Bettors can wager on baseball games in Mexico, Japan, and elsewhere at BetOnline, depending on the popularity of the event. Baseball games are made available according to demand, so you shouldn’t expect to see every Mexican League game offered as you would find every Major League line.

Basketball at BetOnline

As is the case with baseball, basketball is very much an international sport. In addition, basketball is widely bet both at the collegiate and professional levels (unlike baseball). Basketball betting at includes NCAA, NBA and major leagues, like Euroleague, from non-US territories, including Germany, Spain, and even Asian leagues like South Korea KBL and games in China. This comprehensive list of basketball games at BetOnline makes it a front runner for bettors looking to wager primarily on basketball, regardless of the league. Beyond men’s basketball, also offers lines on WNBA games.

Football at BetOnline

Football betting at BetOnline is, needless to say, the primary focus for the majority of bettors. The nature of BetOnline’s US audience ensures that they will always place a heavy emphasis on any and all football action.

Both college football (NCAA) and professional football (NFL) are available at Canadian Football League (CFL) games also have lines posted. For most major events, an additional slate of lines and player props will also be offered for wagering.

Hockey and Other Sports at BetOnline

The “big three” of the United States sports betting market are, by far, baseball, basketball and football. With that said, BetOnline does offer a complete lineup of hockey (NHL) events just as they do for the other major leagues of the US. In addition to this, bettors can also wager on major events in golf, tennis, and soccer. As soccer’s popularity, especially among gamblers, has grown in the United States, so too has its prevalence in US sports betting.

Beyond this, BetOnline also offers boxing, UFC, MMA, and less frequent major events like the Kentucky Derby, Indy 500 and Daytona 500. If your friend’s are discussing a sports event, odds are that will have lines posted.

Live Betting offers live betting on the majority of sports events that are posted. While some games with less action may have limited or no live betting opportunities, the major leagues will allow everything from current spreads and moneylines to in game prop bets, such as which team will score first, whether a game will go to overtime, and so on.

The live betting interface at BetOnline is best used when at a computer. By live betting on a computer, you will be able to more easily assess current lines and betting options, which is imperative when betting play by play. In terms of juice charged on live betting, BetOnline is in line with its major competitors.

Bet Types at BetOnline

Offered: Moneyline, ATS, Parlay, IF, Reverse, Pleasers, Teasers, Player Props, Futures Wagers
Not Offered: Alternate Lines, Exotic Parlays

The typical wager types, including moneylines and against the spread (ATS) are always available for events offered at Beyond normal wagers, BetOnline also offers parlays in a variety of combinations, including straight parlays, IF bets and teasers. The payouts and specific offerings for these types of bets are dependent on the particular sport or event that is being bet on, as well as the number of individual wagers involved.

Player props and futures bets can also be placed at BetOnline. For the most part, these player props are offered only for the primary leagues, like those listed in the “main sports” section. There are exceptions where smaller leagues will have player props available, but BOL is not known as a book who specializes in these types of more exotic wagers.

We have not found to offer alternate lines or other more non-traditional wagers that you may find at books like Bovada or 5Dimes. As a player, not being able to place these types of bets will likely save you money in the long term. The omission of these wagers is to be expected given that their average user is looking to place straight wagers on the major leagues, and they would not receive enough action to justify these types of bets being made available, or else they would be exposed to sizeable losses.

BetOnline Mobile Sports Betting

BetOnline offers mobile sports betting through their in-browser app. They do not currently have an app, though one should eventually be expected. The ease of the mobile application is somewhere around middle of the road. Once you use the mobile betting a few times, however, you will quickly get the hang of it, making future usage that much easier.

All of the bets and wagers offered on the desktop version of the site can also be accessed on your phone or tablet. As with most websites, BetOnline functions most optimally on a desktop computer, but mobile sports wagering is fairly seamless.

Sportsbook Sign Up Bonus

There are a multitude of different sign up, new bettor/player bonuses that can be found at BetOnline. What you are eligible for will depend upon a number of factors, namely what you are playing and your deposit methods. For example, deposits via Bitcoin, Ethereum, Litecoin or other cryptocurrencies may be eligible for a larger bonus. This is due to the lack of processing fees that BetOnline is required to pay for these deposits.

The particular sign up bonus offered varies from time to time, but BetOnline has historically offered around a 50% welcome bonus. The current offers will always be posted on site; usually on the homepage, and if not, they can be found on the promotions page.

Sportsbook Promotions

Promotions for sports bettors at BetOnline will usually be offered in order to encourage action on a particular event or new bet type. For example, first time live betting players may be eligible for a cash bonus or match deposit bonus. Beyond this, the promotions available specifically to sports bettors are relatively limited, though comparable to the competition.

Sportsbook Bonus Terms and Requirements

Terms and conditions for bonuses at BetOnline vary, but the baseline, minimum requirement is 6x rollover on wagers. For example, a $500 deposit that earns a 50% bonus ($250) would need to wager (6*250)=$1,500 before the bonus money will be eligible for withdrawal.

BOL makes it clear that the potential win is the metric used for rollover. A -110 $110 bet would contribute $100 towards a rollover requirement, not $110. also makes note in their T&C’s that each specific promotion is subject to its own unique terms. Call in bets are not eligible to claim bonuses.

Horses, Esports and Financials at BetOnline

Horse racing, esports and financials all have their own individual sections at BetOnline. Two of these (esports and financials) are growing betting markets, while horse racing is on the opposite end of the spectrum.

For the most part, the horse betting available at is akin to what you would find at your local track or OTB. Since the wagering is not parimutuel, you may end up receiving slightly better or worse odds than are posted at the track itself. This is the same way that horse betting works at Las Vegas casinos. BetOnline offers a more expansive betting menu for large horse racing events, including Kentucky Derby, Preakness Stakes, Belmont Stakes and Breeders Cup. Though wagering limits for horses are not publicly posted, it is a safe assumption that max bets on average races will be fairly low to reduce house risk.

There are multiple esports leagues that can be wagered on through BOL. These include, but are not limited to Dota 2, Overwatch and Starcraft. Esports availability at BetOnline seems to be primarily as a means to remain competitive with other sportsbooks. We say this because the max wager of any type on esports is only $100. Time will tell whether larger esports betting limits will be implemented in the future.

Financial betting through BetOnline allows users to wager on a number of different trading pairs. These include everything from the Australian Dollar against the US Dollar to wagers on cryptocurrencies against FIAT money like USD. Outside of currency trading pairs, you can also bet on commodities pricing, including copper, crude oil, gold, and silver. Limits for wagers on financials at are not publicly posted and may depend upon your specific account permissions.

Casino at BetOnline

Software Platform: Betsoft
Games Offered: Table Games, Slots, Live Dealer, Video Poker, Keno, Bingo, Scratchoffs
Games Not Offered: Lottery

BetOnline is a full suite gambling destination, meaning that they offer a complete casino in addition to their sportsbook. In fact, a large number of their users are casino players who do not bet on sports at all. Casino players are privy to a number of bonuses and other benefits that sports bettors at are not. This is because the house profit expectation is higher, so they can afford to be more generous with promotions and offers to casino players.

Slots at BetOnline Casino

Number of Slots: Over 200
Min and Max Slot Bets: $.01-$5.00/spin

Since the casino itself operates on the Betsoft gaming platform, it should come as no surprise that its slots are created by Betsoft. While there are hundreds of slot titles to choose from, a slots enthusiast may grow tired of games that are all from the same provider. If you play slots from time to time, but do not consider it to be your only concern in a casino, BetOnline is a good fit. If you are only looking to play online slots, however, BetOnline is not the best casino on the market, US or otherwise.

The limits for slot games at vary from 1 penny up to $5 per spin. This is about industry average in terms of limits offered.

Table Games at BetOnline

Table Games Offered: Baccarat, Blackjack, Caribbean Stud, Craps, Let it Ride, Oasis Poker, Pai Gow Poker, Red Dog, Ridem Poker, RouletteThree Card Poker, Three Card Rummy
Table Games Not Offered: Big Six, Crazy 4 Poker, High Card Flush, Ultimate Texas Hold’em, War
Min and Max Table Games Bets: $1-$250 ($500 Blackjack, $1,000 Craps Table Max)

There are around 20 unique table game types at BetOnline’s casino. Blackjack has the most unique varieties, with over a dozen. From here you will find all of the casino table game staples.

The rules for all of the games are in line with what you would find at a typical brick and mortar casino, so expect around 90-98% payback on most. For blackjack, you should consider the variation you are playing to ensure proper strategy and payback %, as there are many to choose from.

Table games at BetOnline have a minimum bet size of $1 and a maximum bet size of $250. These numbers inflate to $500 for some versions of blackjack, and up to $1,000 can be wagered among all bets in craps.

Live Dealer Games at BetOnline

The Live Dealer casino at BOL is arguably its most appealing feature. Players can not only choose their game type, but also their dealer and the number of players and limits they would like to play with. This means you could find a game to your liking from the outset, without needing to check tables over and over again.

There are four different categories of Live Dealer games offered at, including blackjack, roulette (American and European), baccarat and Super6. The games each have different table limits, which are visible in the game category lobbies. Live Dealer games are not available on the mobile casino version.

Mobile Casino at BetOnline

The mobile casino at BetOnline leaves a lot to be desired. There are less than 10 total slots and tables games each to choose from. The one nice thing about the mobile casino client is that it does not require a download or app in order to play. Full featured games are available in browser and include a quality experience.

If BetOnline were able to significantly expand their total selection of mobile casino games, they would be a great place to play. As is, we would not pick BOL as a top destination for mobile casino gaming.

Casino Sign Up Bonus at BetOnline

There is a multitude of different sign up bonuses for new casino players at As a casino player, you will be eligible for much more in bonus money than sports bettors. The exact sign up offers are prone to change, but BetOnline has typically offered a 100% sign up bonus for casino players.

Sometimes certain games, deposit methods, or promos will inflate this number even further. The maximum that can be earned in bonus dollars is usually $1,000 USD.

Casino Promotions at BetOnline

Promotions are an area of emphasis for the BetOnline casino. Some of the staple promotional offers include leaderboards, where players of specific games compete with other BetOnline players to win contests for extra money or other bonuses.

Other casino promos at include deposit bonuses on certain days of the week, game specific tournaments and offers for players at higher stakes games. These promotions are always changing, so be sure to check what is active at any given time.

Casino Bonus Terms and Requirements

Rollover and other requirements for casino bonuses are not made clear in BetOnline’s terms and conditions. Since BOL is primarily a sportsbook, we suggest asking support if you would like exact terms for a casino promotion, especially when considering that many different types of bonuses exist. Since sports bet bonuses require at least 6x rollover, it is safe to assume that casino bonuses would require at least this amount of wagering, at a minimum, if not much larger.

Poker at BetOnline

Network: Chico Poker Network
Other Skins on Network: and

It may come as a surprise to new and existing BetOnline members alike to learn that the poker room at BOL is among the largest in the US market. As the online poker industry has consolidated, BetOnline has been able to capture a large segment of the market.

Along with Bovada and America’s Card Room, BetOnline is a top 3 leader in the United States online poker market. The Chico Network plays host to BetOnline’s poker room, where the player pool is merged with and, sister companies to itself.

BetOnline Poker Client

Poker players at BetOnline have the option of either playing from within their browser or downloading a client onto their computer. The experiences are roughly the same, though a more serious player would be best served by downloading the actual client in order to avoid needing to log in through their browser whenever they want to play. The poker room at BetOnline uses Adobe Flash when playing in a browser, so this is the only system requirement that is needed in order to start playing.

Poker Cash Game Stakes

The active stakes in cash games at BetOnline range from .01/.02 all the way up to $5/$10. Back in the prime of online poker, the lack of higher limit cash games would have put BOL at an extreme disadvantage, but today, $5/$10 is as large as most any US facing poker sites will offer.

There are 6 and 9 handed games available at all of these limits with active players, so you won’t be sitting idle at an empty table. With that said, the lower, micro stakes tables will always see the most action as a whole.

Poker Games Offered

Poker Offered: Texas Hold’em, Omaha, Stud

While Stud games are offered (7 Card Stud Hi and Hi/Lo), almost all of the poker games at BetOnline are either Pot Limit Omaha or No Limit Texas Hold’em. This goes for both cash games and tournaments alike, with NLHE being the larger of the two.

Aside from standard tables, BetOnline also has what they call “BOOST” or “Fast Fold” games where players are allotted less time to act. This is an ideal option for the person who is only playing one or two tables at a time and does not want to wait an extensive amount of time during each hand; especially in hands where they are not playing.

Poker Tournaments and Sit n Gos

Poker tournaments at BetOnline have buy ins that range from freerolls up to $165. The largest guaranteed tournament prize pool that has been offered was $150,000, which was the event with a $165 buy in and unlimited rebuys.

Sit n Gos at BetOnline range from $1 up to $215 buy ins. Heads up, 6, and 9 handed SNGs are all available at these varied buy in levels. Three speeds are offered in tournament style events at BetOnline poker, including regular, turbo, and hyper, with hyper allowing less time to act than turbo, and turbo with quicker speeds than regular.

For the most part, BOL is not considered to be a tournament poker site, but is instead a better fit for cash game players. There are regularly offered $5,000, $10,000 and $15,000 range guaranteed events, but you are not going to find large player pools with big payouts at BetOnline’s poker room.

Bad Beat Jackpot and Promos at BetOnline Poker Room

BetOnline runs a Bad Beat Jackpot (BBJ) that guarantees at least $100,000 in the total prize pool. The requirement for winning the Bad Beat Jackpot is losing with quad jacks or better, with both players using both hole cards in order to achieve the qualifying hand. If the Bad Beat Jackpot is hit at your table at BetOnline, but you weren’t in the hand itself, you will still be eligible for a cut of the total prize.

New poker players at are eligible for a 100% deposit bonus. Players work off the bonus as they play, with the total bonus money being released in $5 increments at a time.

Beyond bonuses, BetOnline’s poker room offers a New Player $10,000 freeroll, which runs once per month and is open to all new players who have made a real money deposit. All real money players are also automatically entered in the $10,000 weekly cash race, which awards prizes to the poker players who put in the most volume in any given week. Leaderboard contests are also run for MTT players (monthly) and SNG players (weekly). The prizes for each of these contests total $5,000.
