The poker room at Mirage reopened after a four-month hiatus. Mirage closed its poker room to downsize it. There are now 12 tables at Mirage. There were 19 before the renovation. The former poker room area lost during the remodel was converted to a cashier cage, which is not yet open. Mirage spreads 3/6 fixed limit and 1/2 No Limit Texas Hold’em. It also hosts two daily poker tournaments and a mixed game on weekends.
Nevada gaming revenue came in at $897 million, a 5.4 percent increase over the previous year. The Las Vegas Strip won almost $500 million, an increase of 7.77 percent. The sevens were also found in the hold of downtown slots and video poker machines. That number was also 7.77 percent, an appropriate number for the percentage of house hold.
Glenn Straub, owner of Revel, told Atlantic City media this week that Revel will not be able to open this summer. An indoor water park on the property may be operational by November. Revel and its energy provider ACR Energy Partners are still feuding over the price to power the shuttered property. There is also a dispute about ownership of the fixtures connecting Revel to its power source.
The 2015 World Series of Poker has begun at the Rio in Las Vegas. It started in Wednesday at noon with the annual Casino Employees event. It looks like this year’s World Series of Poker is already a major success. The $565 Colossus event drew about 5,300 players its first day. The event is expected to draw more than 20,000 players during its four days of day one flights.
There are 68 World Series of Poker events spreads over 51 days. It ends with the $10,000 Main Event on July 5. The first online bracelet event will be held at WSOP.com on July 2. The buy-in is $1,000. It will play down to six players when it will transfer live to Rio on July 4. WSOP.com will also host dozens of satellites for the World Series of Poker.
The Meadowlands will introduce a plan to build a casino at its famous racetrack in northern New Jersey. It would be branded as a Hard Rock. The state is currently in the process of wording a ballot question that will allow voters to decide if the state constitution should be changed to allow casinos outside of Atlantic City. Lawmakers in southern New Jersey and Atlantic City casino executives oppose casinos outside of Atlantic City.
Nevada Governor Brian Sandoval signed two bills into law that will allow ridesharing companies like Uber and Lyft in the state. The bill will allow the Public Utility Commission to draft regulations that would allow these companies to pick up tourists and locals in the state’s major cities. It also included a three percent tax on all fares. This new tax would also apply to taxis and limousines.
