Penn National Gaming is one of the most prominent names in the gambling industry with a focus on the US market. Based out of Wyomissing, PA, the company operates a large number of casinos, horse racing tracks and off-track betting parlors across the United States.
Penn National Gaming can trace its roots back to 1972, when a group called The Turf Club opened Penn National Race Course in Grantville, PA. In 1982, a Pennsylvania businessman named Peter Carlino bought Penn National Race Course from its original owners. The company didn’t officially change their name to Penn National Gaming until 1994, when it went public on the NASDAQ.
As of 2018, Penn National Gaming operates a total of 35 properties across 17 jurisdictions in the United States and 1 jurisdiction in Canada. They have gambling facilities in California, Florida, Illinois, Indiana, Kansas, Maine, Massachusetts, Maryland, Mississippi, Nevada, New Jersey, New Mexico, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Texas, West Virginia, and Ontario, Canada. Across these jurisdictions, Penn National operates approximately 35,000 gaming machines, 800 table games, 11 racetracks, 5 off-track wagering locations, and nearly 4,600 hotel rooms.
