Located close to the city of Quepos on the southwest coast of Costa Rica is a remote jungle resort with an in-house casino called Hotel Layla Resort. Quepos, which is famous for its lagoon and beaches, is surrounded by national parks where you will find 3 different species of monkeys.
Hotel Layla Resort is best approached by car and it is 96 miles away from Juan Santamaria International Airport in the capital of San Jose. There are many major airlines that have routes to this airport and you can access a rental car shop from here or use an airport shuttle service or catch a domestic flight to the nearest town with an airport.
The staff at the on-site casino will ask you to provide identification if they suspect you are under the age of 21 as per Costa Rica’s gambling laws. They do not have a strict dress code but they do ask that you not be barefoot – you may wear sandals.
The small casino inside of Hotel Layla Resort is a cozy space with a bar and waitresses serving free drinks to all active gamblers. The casino is very cheerfully decorated with small palm trees at the entrance and island-themed decorations with slot machines.
They have karaoke night every Thursday at the casino, and on Sunday nights they host Bingo with a cash prize of $500.
You will not find a large variety of table games at this small casino. The only two games available here are blackjack, and roulette. Overall, there are no high limits tables at this casino.
The blackjack games are played using 6 decks and have the option to play the Perfect Pairs side bet.
There are 2 roulette tables running at all times in the casino. Both tables feature American Roulette rules. One of the “tables” hosts electronic roulette while the other is a live roulette table complete with a croupier.
There are a lot of island-themed slot machines at Hotel Layla Resort’s casino which include updated multi-line machines and video reel machines.
There is a total of 51 gaming machines, 44 of which are multi-line slots linked to a progressive jackpot worth $1,000 USD, and 7 are video reel machines. All of the machines accept coin denominations of $0.25, $0.50 and $5 per credit and the multiline machines accept multiple coins.
There are many lodging options in the nearby town of Quepos but, as you know by now, the casino has a hotel on its premises called Hotel Layla Resort. The resort rooms at Hotel Layla come standard with flat-screen TVs, mini fridges, internet and air conditioning. In the surrounding areas, there are multiple local restaurants that you can try out if you wish to taste more authentic Costa Rican cuisine.
El Arado in the nearby town of Quepos is a casual spot that serves fresh Latin American food and seafood that is all locally sourced from the lagoon close by. The restaurant is open for lunch and dinner daily from 12 PM to 5 PM and then from 6 PM to 11 PM.
Sunrise Restaurant is also found in the city of Quepo and it is a traditional Japanese restaurant that serves sushi with fresh ingredients locally sourced from the sea and lagoon nearby. This is a bit more upscale of a restaurant and they require that you dress accordingly.
Emilio’s Café is a locally owned little spot in Quepo that serves authentic Costa Rican food and seafood in small to large meals depending on how hungry you rock up. The café is open all day for breakfast, lunch, and supper.
